Guangdong Bordar Technology Co., Ltd. ( Bordar) has been operating in Africa for 22 years. While focusing on its own business, Bordar is committed to building a bridge to bring Chinese goods to Africa and African agricultural products back to China.
Ⅰ. Background
In 2017, The People's Government of Foshan Municipality formulated the Three⁃Year Action Plan for the Construction of Overseas Foshan House⁃ hold Essentials Exhibition Center to build ten overseas centers in partner countries and regions of the Belt and Road Initiative ( BRI) as Foshan's key investment projects within three years. In doing so, Foshan⁃based household essentials brands can enter overseas markets so that foreign customers can experience Foshan goods, thus leading to cooperation. On September 14, 2018, Foshan Bureau of Commerce reached a cooperation agreement with Bordar to build the Bordar Household Essentials Exhibition Center ( South Africa) .
Ⅱ. Overview
Bordar Household Essentials Exhibition Center ( South Africa) ( Center) was opened on December 10, 2018. It is located in Boksburg, Johannesburg, eight minutes' drive from South Africa's largest international airport and one kilometer from National Route N12 and Airport Expressway R21. Covering an area of about 10,000 square meters with a building area of about 3,700 square meters, it is South Africa's center of building materials for wholesalers. There is also a bonded warehouse and a storage center nearby, forming a logistics and distribution center of 7,000 square meters.
The Center is positioned as a high⁃end exhibition hall providing long⁃ term service to give the best display and promote sales. Through the design of the material flow, visitor flow and trading environment, it is divided into ceramic building materials area, hardware area, furniture area, home appliances area, brand promotion area, customer reception area, and negotiation and communication area.
The Center has created an information system for exhibitors, with functions of export contract management, container load planning and management, customs declaration, whole⁃process monitoring of shipping, customs clearance, warehouse management, quality management, costing and so on. It also provides services including supply chain, logistics, and product display, consumer guide and promotion, etc.
Ⅲ. Methodology
1. Differentiated services.
According to the different characteristics of the exhibitors, the Center provides three operation modesto choose: first, business independent operation — the Center provides sales services only; second, domestic delivery — the Center provides marketing, display, supply chain and logistics services; third, overseas delivery — the Center provides logistics and sales services, etc.
2.Controlling brands, channels, logistics, and teams, and integrating Chinese advanced experience into local practices.
Bordar has created 25 local famous brands in Africa, such as Kisskids, Niceone, Goodone, etc. Taking brand building as an entry point, the products from Chinese small and medium suppliers are packaged and branded together to standardize quality.
3. Employee training.
Bordar respects African culture and cares for the employee growth and has been upskilling both Chinese and African employees. The training includes three stages: first, warehouse internship, where employees have perceptual experience of product business operations; second, basic knowledge learning, which allows them to know the basics of products, the enterprise, and businesses; third, business learning, which enables them to perfectly match their skills to businesses.
Ⅳ. Prospects
At present, the Center accommodates 1, 031 Chinese suppliers. With business covering the southern Africa, it carries significant weight there and can meet the market demand. The Center has been reported by local media many times and its business has been expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zambia, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, and other countries.
